Elements Of A Good Backyard Party

Elements of a Good Backyard Party

The season of entertaining al fresco has arrived. Are you planning on hosting an outdoor party this season? Here are some good things to keep in mind when planning your party to make sure it’s a success:

Good Ambiance

Setting the mood with good music takes the awkwardness out of the air. Depending on the scale of the party, you can hire a DJ or keep it casual with Pandora. Always keep guest preferences in mind as well as the theme of the party when choosing music.

Good Food

No need to serve a five-course meal or spend the entire party abandoning guests while you’re prepping food in the kitchen. Order some delicious appetizers from your local restaurant or put together some delicious snacks from Costco and/or Trader Joe’s.

Good Flow

Take guests things when they arrive and set in a designated area. Then, show guests to the self-serve beverage area upon arrival so they are aware of the process and they can get more comfortable with a drink. Keep in mind that setting up beverages on the other side of the yard creates flow and encourages your guests to move about and socialize.

Good Seating

Offer comfortable seats grouped together to encourage conversation. Cozy seating surrounding outdoor fire features creates a cozy enough space to ensure your guests stay a while. Keep in mind that too many seating options can keep guests from walking around and mingling.

Good Lighting

If you’re not throwing a daytime party, it’s important to have good lighting. Good lighting not only allows your guest to see each other, it contributes to the overall feel and ambiance. No flood lights please. Harsh lighting is not relaxing. Instead consider installing strands of string lights and placing candles throughout.

Good Entertainment

Keeping your guests entertained is always a good idea. Outdoor games like Giant Jenga and Jumbo Connect Four keep things interesting and can help break those awkward silences among guests.
